We are seeking a seasoned and licensed Director of Engineering with deep expertise in Electrical Substation Design and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project execution. The ideal candidate will be a Texas-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with over 10 years of technical and leadership experience in the power delivery sector, particularly in the design and execution of high-voltage substations.

This role will lead a high-performing engineering team, oversee complex substation projects from concept to commissioning, and ensure technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and engineering of high-voltage substations (69kV to 500kV), including greenfield and brownfield projects, expansions, and retrofits.
  • Oversee the development of:
    • Physical layout designs (bus configurations, equipment placement, grounding systems)
    • Protection and control schemes (relaying, SCADA, automation)
    • Detailed construction drawings (one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, conduit and cable schedules)
    • Equipment specifications (transformers, breakers, switches, relays, control panels)
  • Ensure designs meet utility standards, NESC, NEC, IEEE, and other applicable codes.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to ensure constructability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews, FATs, SATs, and commissioning.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for substation projects in Texas.
  • Manage engineering deliverables, schedules, budgets, and quality assurance across multiple EPC projects.
  • Interface with clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies to support permitting, interconnection, and compliance.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • Active Texas PE license is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical substation design and EPC project execution.
  • 10+ years of engineering management experience, including team leadership and project oversight.
  • Proven experience with:
    • AIS and GIS substation design
    • Relay coordination and protection settings
    • Grounding and lightning protection systems
    • SCADA and communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850)
  • Strong understanding of EPC project lifecycle, risk management, and cost control.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, SKM, and PLS-CADD.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with renewable energy interconnections and utility-scale battery storage.
  • Familiarity with NERC/FERC compliance and interconnection standards.
  • PMP certification or formal project management training.
